Lighted boats on river Aug. 21

CEDAR RAPIDS — Venetian Night, a lighted boat parade, is scheduled for the evening of Aug. 21 this year on the Cedar River near Ellis Park.
The parade starts at dark, with a big fireworks display to follow. The event is free and open to the public.
In 2007, the Cedar Boat Club revived the lighted boat parade after a 50-year absence.
Thousands showed up that year to see the 17 boats decorated with everything from Christmas lights to music videos.
The best place for viewing the parade is from the shore at Ellis Park or the ski team grandstands at the mouth of the harbor.
